Jean Mason (nee Stene) of Bay Ridge, Brooklyn passed away peacefully on February 10, 2020 with her family by her side. Beloved wife of Jackie (John) for 63 loving years, Jean is survived by her husband and two sons; Roger and wife Annette, Christopher and his wife Robin.

One of Jean’s greatest joys was spending time with her three grandchildren - Sky Rae, Sara Olivia and Taylor John - all of whom cherish the love she offered so generously and the memories they created with their grandmother. Together with her adoring husband, Jean would often be found planning the next adventure for the grandchildren from horseback riding and trips to Coney Island, to trick-or-treating and the annual tradition of baking Christmas cookies.

Jean was born in Brooklyn to Norwegian immigrant parents, Lars and Birgit Stene, on September 16, 1938. She has been a resident of Brooklyn her entire life and after the birth of their sons, the family spent summers in Tarrytown, NY. Tarrytown was a fitting place for Jean as she adored the wildlife and the gardens. She was an avid bird watcher but could often be found curled up with a good book. Most of all, she loved spending time with her children and the friends and family that came to visit.

Jean grew up with her sister Carol Zwerenz and brother Dennis Stene (deceased). She began her professional career as a New York City model and after raising her two boys, she eventually went on to join the family’s glass engraving business.

In lieu of flowers, please continue Jean’s legacy of supporting animals by making a donation to the ASPCA.

Not sure what to say?

I just found out about Jean’s passing when our Christmas card was returned. My wife Caroline and I worked with Jean at Macy’s in the early 80s. Simply put, we loved Jean, she was our mother hen as well as a dear, and fun friend.

So sorry for your loss Roger and, to your your family, may she Rest In Peace eternally.

My sincerest sympathies to family and friends of Jean Mason.

I went through Jr High School and High School, as my sister Donna Ketelsen who recently passed and waked now at Calvin, with Roger and Christopher.

Rest peacefully Mrs. Mason in our Lords hands.

God Bless
Cat Ketelsen-Gomes

I knew her since I was I diapers. We lived on the same block. She always put a smile on my face and help me during my school fundraisers and was a great neighbor.

I remember Jean,Jack and the boys from Senator St growing up. Jean was always so sweet and kind, a great neighbor.
May she rest in peace

We love Aunt Jeanie and will miss her. When we were kids, Aunt Jeanie used to tell us stories about Roger and Chris. Like how Roger, at the age of 2, would begin each day asking for his shoeys before he got out of bed. She would tell us everything he did and it sounded so wonderful that wed ask her to tell us the stories again, and again. You learn later as an adult how annoying that can be. But Aunt Jeanie never got annoyed with us. She loved us. When she first would see you, her face...
