Rivet Funeral Home & Crematorium Inc. - Merrimack Obituary

Jean A. Metz of Merrimack, NH passed away on Dec. 5th, 2023 following the recent death of her beloved husband Charlie with whom she shared 61 years of marriage.  Jean’s legacy of love and service to others has touched many lives.

Jean was born in Boston, MA on April 11th, 1939, daughter of Andrew and Olga Bowen.  Jean completed an accelerated program at Boston Business School and did further undergraduate work at Rivier College.  Jean always balanced very responsible positions at work with her role at home.  Much of her career was as Administrative Assistant to the President of Sanders Associates; later Lockheed-Martin; now BAE Systems: a prestigious position to which she was dedicated and at which she excelled.

Jean was Charlie’s partner in every activity of life.  She decorated the home he built for her with antiques and whatever Charlie fashioned for her from copper or wood.

In retirement Jean and Charlie were “splitters” between NH and FL.  Jean kept close to relatives and friends and will be sorely missed for the beautiful and caring person she was in the world.

Survivors include daughters Marie and Margaret, son Charles III; grandchildren Kelly, Amy, Scott, Calista and Charles IV; great-grandchildren Devin, Regan, Kyla and Kyra; and grandson-in-law Brian and granddaughter-in-law Ashley; and nephew Phil.  Jean will also be greatly missed by her brother Andrew, partner Sue, and sisters Sandra, Carol, Janet and Marsha and their families.

Visitation hours will be held on Sunday, December 10th, 2023 from 11 AM to 1 PM at the Rivet Funeral Home, 425 Daniel Webster Highway, Merrimack. Burial will be held privately in Reed’s Cemetery in Merrimack at the convenience of the family.

Not sure what to say?

Jean was an honest and sincere friend who never spoke ill of anyone - a true friend to all who knew her. We recently learned of her passing and was saddened to know both Jean and Charlie are no longer with us. Sending our blessings and sympathy to the family. With love - Cedric and Zoe Onsruth

I am heartbroken to hear the news about Jean and Charlie. Jean was my mentor, my friend. For decades, she sent cards for my birthday, my wedding anniversary, and for Christmas (I’m in California). I visited Jean and Charlie in 2004. Far too many years ago. I tried to call her this summer but was unable to reach her. She and Charlie will be missed and fondly remembered. Sending heartfelt condolences to her family. She spoke so lovingly of you all.

My heartfelt sympathies go out to you all. Your cousins on Charlie’s side of the family, The Marchant family, is thinking of your Dad and Mom today and reminiscing about the younger days, when we were more connected. My Grandmother was Myrtle, Peg’s sister. I remember visiting your parents home with my Grandmother long ago when I was a child. They were so kind and welcoming. My Mother was Marie and she and Uncle Charlie and Aunt Jean would send cards and letters and talk over the phone...

We always said Gramps would never be able to be without Nana. We know now that length of time is 26 days. I am comforted to know they are back together again as there was never a time that I can remember where one wasn’t there without the other; however, the loss of both so close together is overwhelming. Their losses will leave a huge void in our family. We will keep them both alive with our lifetime of cherished memories and funny stories, always. Thank you, Nana, for loving us...

Our condolences to the Metz family.
So sorry to hear that Jean passed away soon after Charlie. We will miss seeing them both.

Offering our deepest condolences during this time.
