Jean was a beautiful, refined and elegant woman. She and Buddy were dear friends of my uncles, Tom Baldassarri, a fashion industry creative and Mike Shirley, who owned a Manhattan travel agency. They met the Rolands through travel and always enjoyed their company. Even after Buddy´s death, Jean would travel up to my uncles´ country house in Pawling for one of their fabulous end-of-summer parties. Jean crossed my life in many ways--luncheon group, college, poetry. Her generosity was enormous. One example that was especially timely was her major role in financing a campus food pantry for our college just before the pandemic and in time to feed many students hit hard at the time. Because she was modest, many who have benefitted from her gifts will never know the source but her friends do and will miss her.

I met Jean through a writing class at the Noble Maritime Collection in October 2004. That class morphed into a steady group of six writers who stuck together for twelve years, seriously enough to publish two anthologies of our work. I remember working for Jean and Buddy for many years. They were very kind & beautiful people to know. Truly old souls who were very Respected. My heart goes out to the families. I always looked forward to seeing her and getting her the right help that she would need. God Bless you Jean. May you Smile once again at seeing Buddy
