I think of Jean more of a Lawrence because the Nichols family and the Lawrence family go back as friends for several generations. Jon father was at school with Jean's mother. The families lived in the same neighborhood for several generations near where Jean lived as a Thorpe. They both had cabins at Mt Hood and the next generations are still enjoying them. The 4th and 5th generations do not know each other well as they now live all over the country and none of ours live in Portland. ...

I was sad to learn of the passing of Great Aunt to me Jean. My experiences are limited of her but this I know, she was very conscientious, kind, smart and dedicated. Even given our limited contacts, I know she was a gracious and just a beautiful being as I described to my husband once after he reviewed our wedding photos. A wedding she was roped into attending by virtue of being a Thorpe. Thereafter when I was visiting from Utah, she showed me the Japanese and Rose gardens in Oregon. The...

My thoughts and heartfelt sympathy are with my Aunt Jean's family. I have many fond memories of family times together from early childhood through recent lunches at Tewilliger. Time never seems to be our friend in that we always think there is another day. She was a kind soul with a ready laugh, always made me feel welcome and was glad to hear from me. Jean will be missed.
