Hansen Funeral Home - Davison Obituary

Jeanne Elizabeth Mondou of St. Augustine, Florida (formerly of Clio, Michigan), age 72, passed away at her home on January 20, 2013. Jeanne was born August 19, 1940 in Port Huron, MI to Glenwood and Leona (Hill) Farrish. Jeanne grew up in Flint. She graduated from the University of Michigan where she earned Bachelors and Masters Degrees. Jeanne spent many years teaching thousands of children to swim. Her long term tenure at Durant Tuuri Mott pool endeared her to many families. Jeanne taught for the Flint Community Schools and spent most of her career as a special educator at the Genesee Intermediate School District working with homebound and hospitalized students and as a consultant for students with physical and health impairments. When Jeanne retired to the St. Augustine area she remained active in the education of special education students by serving as a volunteer at local schools. Jeanne's passion in life was helping others, by giving of her time, her money, and her heart. Jeanne was an active member of many charitable organizations and served on the boards of the Physically Impaired Adults of Michigan, the Michigan Easter Seals, and the Genesee County Chapter of the Council for Exceptional Children. She enjoyed her job and prided herself on being able to obtain needed services for "her kids" and their families.

Jeanne is survived by her husband of 49 years, Leon Mondou; their daughters, Amy (Anders) Runevad of London, England; Martha (Richard) McDermott, of Indianapolis, Indiana; and her precious grandchildren, Eric and Emma Runevad and Leah McDermott. She was also known as "Grandma Jeanne" to numerous other children, especially, Kara, Kelsay, and Kerrie Mannor. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Kathleen Weir.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday February 2, 2013 at Hansen Funeral Home Groves Chapel Downtown Davison. Family will receive visitors from 11:00am until time of service on Saturday.

In lieu of flowers, please continue Jeanne's spirit of caring for kids with a donation to The Children's Wish Fund, Hurley Development Office, One Hurley Place, Flint, MI 48503.

Not sure what to say?

Jeanne , i still miss you! And miss our talks
I will never forget you.

I have very happy memories of my early childhood swim lessons from Mrs. Mondou in her backyard pool in Clio. Her attention, encouragement, and positive energy made a difference in my life.

From browsing this guest book, looks like I'm one of many who share similar sentiments. :)

Lots of love to the family,
Cindy Romer

Dear Leon and Family, We are so sorry to hear of your loss. Jeanne was also a terrific home bound teacher to me while I was very ill at Clio High School. Besides being a family friend, she was a wonderful person. God Bless you all! Love, Bill and Susan (Taylor) Morgan and Family.

So sorry to hear of Jeanne's passing. I am a Northern H.S. classmate. She was an exceptional student and very active in the school plays and Drama activities. May God grant her peaceful repose & eternal memory..........Ken Paul

Mr. Mondou, Amy, & Martha, I am very sorry for your loss. I have fond memories of her. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time.

Dear Leon, Martha & Amy,

My friendship with Jeanne started when I worked at Mott Childrens Health Center - working together to provide needed services for our special children. That friendship lasted many years after we stopped working together - dinners with & without husbands, attending Amy's & Martha's weddings & a couple visits in Florida. Jeanne loved every one, especially her family - she was so proud of Amy & Martha - traveling almost days to visit grandchildren in the Far East...
