What a wonderful woman, courageous, kind, generous, civic minded and a role model for all who knew her! I remember fondly how she invited my family to ice skate at the farm on her pond. She was always optimistic and cheerful and a faithful friend to me and my Mom and Dad. My prayers are with Jeanie, Sarah, Robert and all the family for good memories of comfort and healing in the days to come. All love, Robyn

I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your mother. She was a very special and wonderful lady who will be missed and certainly remembered by all who knew her. Both of your parents were leaders in the community and always contributed to the betterment of Southwest Virginia. (I still think of "Mean Jeanie and her flying machine" and the days you and Sarah joined us at the lake to ski)

Your dear mother was the principal at Northwood Elementary when I was a student. She was always so dignified, so strong and so compassionate. She asked my parents about my brother and I well into our adulthood. Mrs. Whitman was my first strong female role model. I will never forget her. My deepest condolences to you all.

I am a Kindred Hospice Volunteer and made visit to Mrs Whitman on a weekly basis. I enjoyed visiting with her until the virus stopped me. I would talk and sing to her. God Bless her. Thought and prayers are with her family

Your beloved Mama taught me so very much in the two years I interacted with her at White Birch. Her gracious spirit, gratitude for small favors, and her beautiful smiling eyes are all gifts to me. I loved her dearly. I pray each of you as her family will find deep comfort from our Heavenly Father as you mourn her passing.

What a great lady! We remember how devoted she was to her students at Northwood. Our daughter, 1st grade, referred to her as "you know, the guard" because she couldn't remember the word "Principal." But that was an apt description of Jean because she guarded and looked over every one of her students. She is greatly missed!
