WISE, Jeanne E. Died May 31 at Youville House at age 95. She was born in Michigan, where she completed training as an RN. She and husband Gilbert Wise moved from coast to coast; in each community Jeanne volunteered for causes ranging from civil rights to mental health to int'l student exchange....

I thought I knew how to sew, but Jeanne REALLY taught me how it was done. And many other things she taught me as a young daughter-in-law spending summers with her & Gil & 2 young grandchildren -- such as her favorite quote: "This too must pass"; use baking soda in water to wash the oil out of your hairbrushes; canning; handling horses; knitting tips; making Christmas cards from carving linoleum lined wood blocks; her love of mystery books; Great Books study; Meals-on Wheels Volunteer; and...

I remember her teaching me about the little things that women knew (I thought, believing there was this secret world of grown-up ladies that all had potions and curses). She taught me to take care of my nails, to listen to your hair squeak when you are rinsing conditioner so you know you've gotten all of it, to dry carnations from the garden and make bouquets and wreaths. I remember her canning strawberry-rhubard, and frustrated reprimands during "nap time" at The Farm when we decided once...

Sympathy to Jeanne's family. A remarkable women and great neighbor on Pheasant Valley. Reunited with the love of her life, Gil now. We missed them when they moved to Tucson and thought of them often. Susan Walter and Brenda Thaler
