Jeannette Nolan-Westlake Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 30, 2018.
Jeannette Nolan Westlake, 97, died January 29, 2018 at her daughter's home near Augusta, Georgia after an extended illness. Jeannette will be transported to Columbus, Indiana where she enjoyed many fulfilling and happy years of her life. Visitation will be held this Friday, February 2, from 4:00-8:00 PM at Hathaway Myers Funeral Home, 1022 Pearl Street, Columbus. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, February 3, at 10:00 AM at St Bartholomew Catholic Church, 1306 27th Street, with Rev. Clement T. Davis as celebrant. Burial will follow at Garland Brook Cemetery, Columbus, Indiana.
Jeannette was born on July 2, 1920 in Cohoes, New York, to Leo and Wilhelmina Mossey. She was the third of five children. In high school she developed a passion for singing and administration. Upon graduation from Albany Business College, Jeannette pursued a brief career as an administrative assistant and a professional opera singer in New York and Indianapolis. On September 11, 1944 Jeannette married John J. Nolan, Master Sergeant in the Army Air Corps. They were married for 46 years until John's passing in 1990. Together they raised 4 children, Dianne Nolan Dickson of Mandeville, LA, Janice Nolan Blanchard of Shelbyville, IN, John Nolan of Eden Prairie, MN and Mary Elizabeth Nolan Hyer of Grovetown, GA. Jeannette moved with husband John to Indiana in 1956 and was heavily involved in the local community and St Bartholomew Catholic Church. In her spare time, she enjoyed volunteering, gardening, and spending time with her 22 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. Following her marriage to John, she was married for 18 years to Robert Douglas Westlake from 1994 to 2012.
Her family paid this tribute to her, 'Jeannette (Mom-Mom) was one of the kindest, most loving people you could ever meet, she opened her heart and her home to many over the years and she will be sorely missed.'
She is survived by her 2 daughters, Dianne Dickson & Mary Liz Hyer, son John Nolan, sisters Leona Linen, Lorraine Keis, and brother Ret. Chaplain Colonel Robert E. Mossey. She was preceded in death by her sister Wilhelmina Amyot and her daughter, Janice Nolan Blanchard.

Jeanette was a treasured former client in Columbus, and for many years she and my mother sat together in church at St. Bartholomew to listen to our group. They especially enjoyed the sound of our accordion player! The fondest memories of the two ladies together, I miss them both.

So very sorry for the loss of your wonderful mother. She was such a lovely lady and I remember her so very well. I first met her I believe when I was in the first grade. Be comforted in knowing that she is now in a much better place. Thoughts and prayers go out to each and every one of you.

Sugar filled any room she entered with excitement and light. She personified a life well lived. I hope these things plus the love of those who loved her and you will sustain you. Sending much love to the family. God bless each of you.
