I knew Jeff from Ano Nuevo where we were both docents. I got to know him when we both served on a committee writing an Elephant Seal manual for lay people (docents) based on scientific research papers. I remember Jeff was very skilled at converting a dense scientific paper into a more understandable form for those of us who didn't have a science background.
