One more January moment of remembrance, each one more difficult than its predecessors.

Jeffrey passed away in Berkeley. I was born in Berkeley a few days over 80 years ago. Jeffrey and my own son Geoffrey were classmates for one year in Chapel Hill High School, before Geoffrey transferred to what was then the North Carolina School of the Arts (and is now the UNC School...). It was with great sadness that I learned in December, from Jeffrey's father, who was a roommate of mine at Yale, that Jeffrey was very ill and wasn't going to make it.

I never met Jeffrey, but I knew his parents and his aunt, and I had met his sister, in their parents' home in Chapel Hill.
