Jeffrey “Jeff” Ray Starkey, age 55, of Hammond, Indiana, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, July 25, 2025. He was born on September 24, 1969, to Roland and Ann Starkey.
Jeff was known by all who met him as a kind, thoughtful, and caring man. He married the love of his life, Jean Starkey (née Beverage), on August 11, 1995. Over the course of their 30-year marriage, he was a devoted and loving husband. Together, they welcomed their son, Joseph Starkey. Jeff was a proud and dedicated father, always present and supportive, and considered by many to be the best dad anyone could ask for.
Jeff had a passion for life and took great joy in his garden, decorating for holidays, and spending time with his family. He was also an avid sports enthusiast, proudly cheering on the Indianapolis Colts, Chicago White Sox, and the University of Michigan Wolverines football team.
Jeff is survived by his beloved wife, Jean; their son, Joseph; and his mother, Ann Starkey. He also leaves behind his cherished pets—Bella, Milo, Callie, and Ozzy—who brought him daily joy and companionship. Jeff is additionally survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nephews, cousins, and dear friends who will miss him deeply.
He was preceded in death by his father, Roland Starkey, and his sister, Cynthia Starkey-Schroeder.
A Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 31, 2025 from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM at Solan Pruzin Funeral Home, 14 Kennedy Avenue, Schererville, IN. A graveside service will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Hammond.
Following the burial, a potluck luncheon will be held at American Legion Post 66 in Griffith, Indiana. All are welcome to attend and share memories in celebration of Jeff’s life. Contributions to the luncheon are appreciated.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that monetary donations be made to Solan-Pruzin Funeral Home to assist with final expenses. Floral arrangements will also be gratefully accepted.
