A Third Son to Die
This is the week of the year when Jeffrey Shaw, his brother and a friend would head upstate to go deer hunting ‹ a tradition that began long ago when Mr. Shaw's father organized the trips.

"He loved his hunting, he loved his golf, but there was no single thing about Jeff that stuck out," said his wife, Debra. "What made Jeff was just everything. He was my right arm, and he would do anything for his kids. If one of the kids had a basketball game, he'd be there. And last year, he took a referee course, so he'd be able to ref at their games this year. He worked and then he came home to us. That was what he lived for."

Mr. Shaw, 42, an electrician from Levittown, N.Y., whose work took him to the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, was the second of six children ‹ and the third son to die. "I lost one son when he was hit by a car," said his mother, Gerry Shaw. "Another had spina bifida and died. And now we miss Jeff so much. We still call his cellphone, to tell him how our days are going."

Not sure what to say?

I found Jeff Shaw’s name in a New York Times article. I was moved and searched his name. I came upon this page and read all of the entries.

I just want to say to the whole Shaw family how touched I was by your memories and individual grief journeys. I thought of Jeff all day and want you all to know that his memory is carried on by a stranger in Vermont.

May you all have peace.

JEFF YOU WILL BE MISSSED FOREVER .THE TIMES YOU, SCOTT&I HAD TOGETHER WAS A BLAST,VT.& QUEBEC WAS THE BEST!

For some reason I decided to read every post everyone has left. And it has been 12 years since I wrote to you. 12 years and a lot has changed. It makes me wonder what would life would be like if you were still here. As strong as our family is, it feels so different. Upstate is gone, we don't get together as much anymore. People are distant and doing their own thing. I can't help but to think if you were still around it would be so different. As I get older and hear about your stories and...
