Ocean View Funeral and Cremation Service - Astoria Obituary

June 6, 1957 – July 31, 2023
Our very cool brother, amazing uncle and great friend passed away suddenly on July 31, 2023. Jeff was born in Astoria to Harold (Ike) and Gail Vice on June 6, 1957. Both Ike and Gail proceeded Jeff in death. Jeff grew up at the Vice family home east of Astoria in Walluski and it was there he passed away.
Walluski was a kid’s paradise… about forty kids that lived on Little Walluski road, and they had free reign to swim, ride bikes, build forts, go fishing and get in a lot of other mischief all day long. Parents watched out for their own kids and everyone else’s… This childhood of freedom and adventure resulted in a circle
of lifelong friends that have remained close, like family, their entire lives. Jeff was a loyal friend to many, often quietly doing things to be helpful to others.

Jeff attended Lewis and Clark Consolidated grade school and graduated from Astoria High School in1975, where he enjoyed playing baseball and basketball. Jeff had many interests and always took on new challenges. One challenge he began in high school was his lifelong project of restoring and maintaining his beautiful 55 Chevrolet. This also involved a circle of great friends. After graduating, Jeff worked in the
Astoria area for a few years and then moved to California. This is where he became a contractor, which became his profession and business. Jeff enjoyed living in California. He became a scuba diver and spent a lot of time diving off Catalina, one of his favorite places.

He returned to Oregon and resided in Astoria and Scappoose operating his business as a contractor in all types of construction and maintenance between Portland, Beaverton, Scappoose, and the north coast area. Jeff was the guy who was always ready to help anyone, often showing up and lending a hand just when it was needed most. He had the skillset to repair, rebuild, or find a solution to fixing almost anything. He enjoyed taking his boat out for fishing or crabbing trips, and hit the clam tides on a regular
basis, always sharing his catch.

He was preparing to retire and spend the rest of his life at the Vice family home in Walluski. Jeff is deeply missed and remembered by his sisters, Mary Parker, and Jan (Robert) Hubbard. His nieces Laura Parker (Tyler Lyngsted), Jill (Mike) and Sarah Weinstein and Brenda Esser (Jim Burnet). Nephews Scotty Parker (Haylee Dundas) and Jameson Landwehr. Jeff is also survived by many close lifelong friends and their
families as well as friends he made while living in Scappoose and those he had worked with and for the
past many years.

Jeff had a heart of gold and will be remembered for his tender heart, love of animals and his wonderful creative ways of expressing his feelings to those he loved.
A celebration of Jeff’s life will be held on September 30, 2023, from 1 pm to 4 pm at the Big O Saloon, 89523 OR-Hwy 202 Astoria Oregon.

Not sure what to say?

I was just reflecting on my life and remembering one of my boyfriends and had to look you up to see if I could find anything about you and sadly I found this. Jeff, you were way to young to leave us all behind. I want to say how much I loved hanging out with you and your beautiful and beloved golden retriever Sandy. I really missed you but my kids needed my undivided attention so I moved on which was the right choice for me. I was fortunate enough to meet your lovely family and some of your...

I can honestly say that for the past 35 years, you had been my closest friend. I would not have moved up here if not for you, and you helped out greatly for our move to be possible. Living up on the peninsula, you came to visit a handful of times but because of your work, the visits became fewer, and with Covid, we hardly saw each other. A year and a half had passed without speaking, and I had wondered if a joke spoken between us was taken the wrong way. Every time that I crossed over that...

This was so sad to hear that you had passed Jeff. I used to rent from your parents who, like you, were the best of the best. I'm sure you are all together again up in heaven because that is where good people go. You will be missed

A year and a half has now passed since you checked out and only by chance I just heard the word. Absolutely stunned and I’m still having a hard time believing that we won’t laugh together anymore. You did everything possible to live a long life after quitting smoking. Taking vitamins, eating healthy, but working too damn much. Not enough time to play. You looked forward to retirement and building cabins on the family property, fishing on your new boat, and enjoying not having to wear that...

Group of 10 Trees

Hi Jeff. I had a dream about you recently. I saw your face, and you had a smokers laugh that was contagious. You were my father and uncles friend, fellow contractor, and corvette enthusiast. I believe you three worked a lot together. You were and are missed. I asked where you went many years ago. I'm not sure why we didn't come up to visit.
To the family and friends left behind, Jeff was a friendly and upstanding man. I appreciated his energy, and I'm sorry for all of your losses.
