McNally & Watson Funeral & Cremation Service - Clinton Obituary

CLINTON, MA/ONTARIO, CANADA/CEBU CITY, PHILIPPINES

Jefren M. Batucan, 48, died on Monday, February 15, 2021, after suffering cardiac arrhythmia caused by complications associated with kidney disease and diabetes.

He leaves his beloved daughter, Ava Batucan, at home; his parents, Jasper and Marina (Mendoza) Batucan, of Toronto, Ontario, Canada; a sister, Joan M. Batucan, of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada; his daughter's mother, Kia Marie Johnson, with whom he had a warm friendship and shared love of raising their daughter; many friends, and relatives in the US, Canada, and the Philippines.

Jef was born in Cebu City, Philippines, and emigrated to Canada at a young age.  A couple of years after completing his engineering degree at University, he left home once again, moving to Boston in 1999.  He later settled in Clinton, his home for the past 15+ years.

He had been working as an Optical Sales Engineer/Network Engineer in the Boston and Greater Boston area since the summer of 2000, and had been a Senior Sales Engineer at Crown Castle and its legacy companies for the last 17 years.

He was active in various area pool leagues, with at times having captained as many as 4 teams at one time.  He competed as an individual and in teams, and had gone to the national championship tournaments in Las Vegas, NV almost every year for the last 15 years, representing the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.  He achieved this honor by winning or placing 2nd in the district championship, as either an individual or a team or both.

Funeral services will begin on Sunday, February 21, 2021 with calling hours at the McNally & Watson Funeral Home, 304 Church St., Clinton, from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m., followed by a service of reflection and remembrance at 4:00 p.m. Relatives and friends will again gather on Monday, February 22, 2021 for a funeral Mass at St. John the Evangelist Church, 80 Union St., Clinton, beginning at 8:15 a.m.  Following the Mass, family and friends will gather at the funeral home once again, for a time of sharing, both in person and virtually, from 9:15-10:15 a.m.

Not sure what to say?

So sorry to hear of your passing 'Hammy' - still the only person I know who had a nickname crafted off of another nickname :)
Missing you my friend.

Im shocked and so sad to learn of my good friend's passing. My deepest condolences to the
entire family , Ava and Kia. Today would have been Jefren's 49th birthday, we lost him way too soon.
I met Jeff along with our other friend Joe , at a blackjack training school in Toronto in 1993. The 3 of us hit it off and became great friends. We were inseparable ,we were known as the 3 amigos, we would work in all the charity casino companies together where in 1 of them...

Sorry to hear of his passing. Our thoughts are with his family during this difficult time. He was always funny and bright in the office. He will be missed.

My deepest condolences to the family I have many memories of jefren as we were childhood friend and as we went to St Patrick's till grade 5 then St Mary's all those bike rides and playing video games when he lived off Baldwin and Henry St we lost touch and just reconnected two years ago. Rest in peace my buddy

My most memorable recollection - one that will never be erased from my mind is Jef's big smile - always with a shadow of a mustache even at age 14! His smile was contagious and it often was accompanied by a giggle then laughter. I will never forget the way I felt around Jef - Happy, calm and safe. I will remember him fondly. Like the priest said in today's mass, "Jef's life has changed not ended". May his memories live in us and his legacy continue in Ava. God bless his soul, his...
