Baca's Funeral Chapels - Las Cruces Obituary

On September 23, 2023, our beloved mother, JENNIE M. SOLTERO passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family.  Jennie was born April 19, 1932, to Manuel and Elena Moreno. In 1950, she married the love of her life, Benjamin M. Soltero, and together they cherished the blessing of having three children.

They were both known for their kindness and hospitality. Friends, relatives, and neighbors always knew they were welcome to drop by at any time. Chips, salsa, and green enchiladas were always on the menu for anyone who came by.  Jennie was a joyful soul, and her laughter was contagious. She reveled in the role of being a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother (GG as she was fondly called), loving them all unconditionally.

Her life was a testament of her dedication to her God, Jehovah. She was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1960 and served Him faithfully until the end of her life. Her unwavering faith ensured her family that her passing is only temporary, for she knew she would be resurrected into an earthly paradise in the near future, (John 5:28,29; Acts 24:15; Revelation 21:3-5). Among her greatest joy was being out in the ministry sharing the good news of God’s Kingdom with anyone who was willing to listen.

She is survived by her children, Yolanda Fitzgerald (Charles), Patricia Sanchez (Frank), Gilbert Soltero (Velia); three grandchildren, Jeremy Sanchez (Leticia), Gilbert B. Soltero (Lourdes), and Erika Ortega (Nathan); and four great-grandchildren, Lexie Sanchez, Heidi, Benjamin M., and Daisy Soltero. She is also survived by two brothers, Bobby Moreno (Chole) and Orlando Moreno (Millie); sisters-in-law Genevieve, Martha, and Maggie Moreno as well as many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by sister-in-law Maggie Lucero and brothers-in-law Chano Soltero (Bertha) and Bobby Soltero. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Benjamin M. Soltero, her parents, Manuel T., and Elena C. Moreno, her two sisters, Barbara Morales, and Helen Rios, three brothers, Manuel, Tony, and Raul Moreno.

At her request, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 1110 Burke Road, Las Cruces, NM on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at 2 PM. A private Inurnment will be at a later date.

A special “thank you” goes to Gentiva Hospice staff that supported her as well as the family during her illness. We are especially grateful for the tender loving care shown to mom by Jessica Hernandez, Juany Navarette, and Amber Williams.

Cremation was entrusted to the care of Baca’s Funeral Chapel of Las Cruces and Sunset Crematory, 300 E. Boutz Road, Las Cruces 527-2222. For online condolences logon to www.bacasfuneralchapelslascruces.com
