Dr. Jennifer Erica Mathis, Ph.D., died on June 6, 2025, in Santa Rosa, CA, after a courageous battle with breast cancer. She was 53. She was comforted in her final days and hours by her family and friends who gathered at her bedside. Born on September 20, 1971, in Nevada, Iowa, Jennifer lived a life marked by passion, resilience, and intellectual pursuit.
Jennifer grew up in Sonoma County, CA, graduating from Rancho Cotate High School, Santa Rosa Junior College, and Sonoma State University. She moved to Arizona, where she continued her education earning a master's degree in Forensic Psychology, then a master's degree in Counseling; and ultimately her doctorate in Psychology, thus becoming Dr. Jennifer Mathis, Ph.D.
Jennifer embraced life with positivity, joy, and humor. She guided countless individuals through their personal healing journeys.
She loved traveling, going to Taylor Swift concerts, singing karaoke, crocheting, reading, and going to the beach, whether it was warm and tropical or cold and rocky. She was a devoted cat mom and a true friend, who touched the lives of so many.
Jennifer's vibrant spirit and compassionate legacy will live in our hearts forever.
She is lovingly remembered by her mother and stepfather, Linda and Scott Bare; stepmother, Jackie Mathis; siblings Dan Mathis (Robin), Michelle Vincent, Lisa Petker (Clint), Michael Leslie Jr. (Tawnia), Kristi Mathis, James Bare (Andrea), Nichole Rivas (Lonnie); many nieces and nephews; and dear friends who were like family. She was preceded in death by her father, James (Jim) Mathis.
