Not sure what to say?

Sorry to hear. I purchased a beautiful painting of his in 2007 and have it prominently hung to enjoy. Condolences

Mr. Lipetzky was my into to High School at Monte Vista. He taught Archaeology there every summer, and in June of 1970, I was there. As my 50th reunion nears, I remember his Archaeology class as my all time favorite, and still talk about it today. I can´t think of a better way to be introduced to High School. RIP Jerrry Lipetzky. You were one of a kind.

I was reading an old San Diego Union article from 1970, when Jerry came to my high school (Monte Vista), during that summer. He taught Archaeology, and I decided I was going to summer school. His Archaeology kick-started my 4 years at Monte Vista, and it was not only the best class I ever attended, but was also very influential to my way of thinking and processing things. RIP Jerry!

Hi Lynn - I was looking for you on-line and came across Jerry's obit. I am very sad to hear of it. I was cleaning out my music the other day and came across the program for our Art Alive performance in April of 1991. Wasn't that a wonderful time! I miss our little recorder group and have many fond memories. If you see this please email me - csimonen@ucsdedu.

I felt really sad to hear of Mr. Lipetzky's loss and what a loss it is. He was an Outstanding teacher. The best of the best. I was fortunate enough to have him in the 9th grade, at El Capitan, in his geography class. He threw 1000% into his work, not 100%, a 1000%. Although I question if it was actual work to him because he made it seem so effortless. He was high energy and magnetic. A teacher who really cared. He could make the most mundane things seem magical. He was a great lecturer. He...

My condolences to the family. Jerome was a wonderful teacher and mentor who went the extra mile to help create a fun, yet challenging, learning environment. A few years back (2007), I happened upon his professional artist web site. His paintings are exquisite and evoke the peacefulness of nature. At any rate, I wanted to communicate how much I had enjoyed his class, and what a wonderful artist he is. In my e-mail, I asked, "Do you miss the 'new school year' excitement...?" His response...

Mr. Lipetzky was one of the most influential teachers that I have ever had and I am saddened to hear of his passing away. I was one of his Geography students in 1987, and will never forget the dreaded "Europe Report" haha... But Mr. Lipetzky made it so much fun that by the time we handed in our reports, we all felt like we had really travelled to Europe! He was the BEST and his dedication to his students and community will never be forgotten.

Remembered forever

I just learned of Jerry's passing. Flashback to '74, eating escargo, digging in a 2,000 year old pit & finding a white shell bead which Jerry gleefly proclaimed the best find of the dig, the bike ride to Julian when I got tired & hitched a ride in the back of a pick-up, I can still hear him yell "BINGHAM!" as I whizzed by, he raced to the next checkpoint to make sure I hadn't been kidnapped. When I won the Gatsby Day costume contest he gave me his personal collection of 78 fox trot records....

I had Mr. Lipeztky for 9th grade geography as an awkward freshman at El Cap. He was the most dynamic and inspirational teacher I've ever had and it makes me very sad to learn of his passing. He really did teach his students to think critically and to look past 'conventional wisdom'. That is one thing I took from him, as well as his zest for life. Bike Club rides were always an adventure with Mr. Lipetzky! My deepest sympathy to his family and greatest appreciation for everything he did.
