Not sure what to say?

I am shocked by the loss of this tremendous person. We shared the opportunity of working together in Harrisburg,Pa. in 1987 as Jerry was the owner of the Harrisburg Senators and i was the Manager - his love of the game of baseball was unmatched and the way he treated people was special. A terrible loss. One of the best men one could ever know.

One of my best memories of Jerry was out on the deck of his new house in Hadley, surrounded by colleagues, students and friends, as he prepared burgers and hotdogs for grilling. I asked him what was his secret to good grilling and he said 'it's all in the firestarter', at which point he drenched the already lit coals in more 'boyscout water'. Jerry always had a lot of flare.
RIP,

I've known Jerry since we were grad students at SIU in the early 60's. He was in political science while I was in industrial/organizational psychology. He was also serving as an assistant director of the Labor Institute, so we had some overlapping academic interests. But most of our relationship centered around our mutual love of the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team. I fondly remember traveling to Busch Stadium for several games over the years back then. His father and some of his...

An amazing person, so accomplished, Mr baseball and so much more, family friend for decades, never without a smile and kind word, thanks for people like him ,who gave goodness to us all.

Jerry has been a part of our family for as long as I can remember - he and Dad were colleagues at UMASS and the best of friends - he came for Christmas' - he was so loved by all of us - he spoke at Dad's memorial service just last summer - a kind, funny, sweet, amazing man that I will always hold in my heart - love and light Jerry - behave up there - Barb Gere Olson

I had Jerry as an undergrad at UMass in the late 70's. He was a wonderful Professor, with a keen interest in political parties, and I always remember the framed political posters that dotted his office walls. He was a natty dresser, and was always up for a chat. Just a few months ago, I saw him in Hadley in his driveway bringing in his recycle bins, and stopped in for a quick conversation on presidential politics. I was honored to sit with Jerry at the Memorial for Ed Gere when he was chosen...

Just a lovely man. Kind and generous to all. What a scholar and lover of baseball. He will be missed by many!!!

I grew up with Jerry in Murphysboro, IL and first met him in 1945 while playing in a softball league in sixth grade. We recently remembered being bused to Carbondale that year to hear Cardinals great Rogers Hornsby discuss the art of hitting. Jerry graduated Murphysboro High School in three years and I stayed on to enjoy my senior year, but he always associated himself with our class of 1952. I attended SIU as a freshman, and during 1953 Spring break went with Jerry to St Petersburg, FL...
