I met him in 93 in killeen tx when i worked at killeen boats and motors he was friends with my boss don guatier i found his bowl ring out in the lot ended going out drinking and ill tell u he sure could heard alot o his storys ended up crashing on my coach.HELL of guy it was a privaledge 2 meet him .1 hell of a ringhe had and heavy.RIP buddy.see u on the otherside my friend

I met Jerrel in 1998 while he was working in McAlester. He was a unique combination of kindness and strength. We spent many hours in the past 7 years cooking, eating, listening to music, drinking and telling stories. If he wasn't up here, I would go to Texas to spend time with him. During the past year, we have mostly spoken on the phone at least once or twice a month. During all of that time, he never told me of any illness, he was that kind of man and I have to accept that. In a state that has produced innumerable great athletes, Jerrel was one of the best. We are sad for your loss but proud to have his athletic achievements on perpetual display.

In reading Jerrel's obituary in the Kansas City Star, it comes as no surprise to find that he was a champion in life as well as on the football field. My sincerest condolences go out to his family and close friends.
