Recently learning of Jerrie Smith's passing, obviously not a close friend, I remember the evening I took a friend to go hear her talk about her new book about her Aunt Carrie Neiman. It was a great honor to get to know Jerrie just as she was finishing her masterful book "A Girl Named Carrie, The Visionary Who Created Neiman Marcus and Set the Standard for Fashion." She was deeply intelligent, creative and thoughtful -- and she clearly made the world a better place with her grace, style and empathy.
