Jerriene Riley

Jerriene Riley, 90, of Lubbock, passed away, September 12, 2008. She was born May 2, 1918 to the late Stephen Milton and Effie Wharton in Roosevelt County, NM. She graduated from Littlefield High School and moved to Lubbock in 1936 to attend Texas Tech where she graduated in 1940. Jerriene married Hershel Riley in 1941 in Needmore, TX and he preceded her in death in 1965. She worked for Frank Boone Publication and retired in 1981. Jerriene was also a member of First Baptist Church of Lubbock. Jerriene is preceded in death by brothers, Olan and Sonny Wharton; and sisters, Ina Bell Bush and Mildred Wharton. Survivors include four children, Emily Phenix and husband Lee of Ransom Canyon, Sue Bridges and husband Johnny of Pensacola, FL, Jerry Riley of Lubbock, and Carol Wilkins and husband Carlton of Tokio, TX; nine grandchildren and their families, Johnnie Carol Hill and husband Jackie and their children Logan and Ashleigh Hill, Wesley Gordon and wife Misty and their children Riley and Bailey Gordon, Kelley Herbez and husband Patrick and their children Alex and Celine Herbez, Jeffrey Bridges, Clay Phenix, Jill Phenix, Cory Riley and wife Kay and their children Ashley, Magan, Courtney, Dalton, and Jeremy, Christopher Riley and wife Jennifer and their son Micah, and Leann Riley; sister-in-laws, Marjorie Wharton of Ft. Pierce, FL and Martha Wharton of Lubbock; and numerous other family members. Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 15, 2008 at Sanders Memorial Chapel with Reverend John Ballard officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Sanders Funeral Home. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 4:00 until 5:00 p.m. Memorials can be made to your favorite charity.
