A dear and trusted friend and comrade. My memories are slipping away but Jerry and Rita have remained close in my deep remembrances of my time in the Navy. Lois and I will miss you. Rest peacefully.

It brings me with great sadness that I learned about the passing of Jerrold Zacharias today. He was my first Captain with VA 75, while I was a 20 year-old Seaman.
As a retired Navy Chief with 22 years of Service, I can look back and say that Captain Zacharias was an inspiration to me and a true leader of the United States Navy.
Rest in Peace.

Captain Jerry Zacharias was my husband's Commanding Officer in the A-6 Intruder Squadron, VA-75. Captain "Zach" led the squadron into battle during the Viet Nam war in the 1967-68 time frame. He was a great leader, a true gentleman and kind friend. In more recent years he and his dear wife Rita visited my husband, Fred Hewitt, in his last days and then returned to attend Fred's funeral Mass. Jerry will always be fondly remembered by our family.
