Steve and I are so saddened by the news. What wonderful friends and neighbors Jer and Connie were when we were learning to be parents in our little Chicago neighborhood. Connie, I am sorry we are learning this so late, but send our love.

I was so saddened and surprised to hear that Jerry had passed. He was an enormously influential person in my life as a young affordable housing activist in the 80´s. I was looking for Jerry because a group we both worked with in Lowell Ma in the 80s is honoring those who were influential back in those days and we all wanted to reach out to Jerry. Connie and family I am so sorry for your loss. I have so many stories about how Jerry´s thoughtful quiet but bold direction and advice guided me through so many thorny situations. Later I got to travel the country with Jerry working for LISC and Concensus Organizing Institute and we did a lot of great work together. I won´t go on and on here about how much Jerry meant to me over the years and I always have his voice in my head. But I wish I had had a chance to let him know. Blessings and peace to his family.

I met Jerry in 1971 in Philadelphia, he's been a cherished friend for most of my adult life. He was wise, kind, funny, self-deprecating in the best kind of way, supportive, and incredibly smart. A real treasure, and the most doting father there could ever be. I just wish I could have said goodbye and let him know how much he mattered.

I was shocked to receive this very sad news. I knew Jerry for a few short year only through our daily exercise class at BreakOut Fitness, but during that time I sensed what a good caring man he was. He alway had a smile on his face and kind words for those of us who were struggling with family illness, issues or personal fitness. He was such a good soul and a true gentleman. I know he will be watching over us still. That was just the type of person he was. My heart goes out to his wife and family.

This is a shock. Jerry was the soul of equanimity. I agree with Steve, he was a real Prince. You'd be hard-put to find more good will in anyone, the genuine, amiable, reasonable man. He was always sensitive to others, a great listener, and never one to just curse the darkness. We've suffered a great loss and I only wish I'd had the chance for just one more lunch with him. Truly a good heart and a gentleman thru & thru.

My sincere condolences go out to Connie, their really stellar children and all of the family.

Jerry was a diamond. Multifaceted, he would bring light into any social interaction. Reserved, yet with a wry sense of humor, I would find him forming a smirk whenever I made an outrageous statement. On the occasions that we spoke of our offspring, Jerry was never boastful; yet, I could sense the enormous pride he had for his children and their accomplishments.
The distillate of his very nature was kindness. Jerry was always willing to lend a hand or freely give advice to anyone who needed guidance. In short, Jerry was a Mensch.
I was and am honored to have known him.
