In My Pocket

I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.

My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.

They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.

Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.

But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.

Dear Mrs. Baker and Family,

I was very sorry to hear that you lost Jerry. He was a valued member of the Educational Leadership Department at SVSU. Jerry had a tremendous influence on many students, especially in the area of Human Resources. His academic work with students was always enhanced by a personal experience story that only he could tell.

What I enjoyed most about Jerry was his ready smile and contagious laugh. I also enjoyed talking about grandchildren (his...

To the entire family of Jerry Baker,

I would like to express the condolences to your family from the entire Class of 1956 from Sterling High School. Our class was unique in that we were like a family in that time frame in that small community. And a loss of one of our family is felt by all. Even though we have lived miles apart over the last several years, we still think and talk to one another concerning our yesterdays.

One of the yesterdays that I will always...

To the Entire Baker Family. I am quite saddened and devastated to hear of Jerry's passing. As a colleague of Jerry's, I am grateful for his laugh and his contributions to the academy. He was a consummate professional, and a great professor. It was Jerry who pushed me into leadership positions and for that I will always remember him. Too bad we don't take time to say thanks enough to those who matter to us, so I am pausing to say thank you for allowing us to have Jerry at SVSU for a brief...

Dear Susan: We just read about Jerry's passing today in the Saginaw News. It was a shock. We were not aware that he was ill. There are many good memories of the years at the Saginaw Board of Education and the great people who worked there. Jerry was wise beyond his years and a true education professional. May God bless you and the family in the months and years ahead. Sincerely, Bill and Mary Jo Scharffe, Saginaw.

To Susan, David and Kathryn: Judy and I were deeply saddened to hear of Jerry's death. He is solely responsible for my 34-year career with the Saginaw Public Schools. I can't begin to recount how much I learned from him during those great days in Testing, Research and Evaluation and in my first few years as the district's communications director. What a great team he built back in the '70s. Every person he hired went on to have an exceptional career, which is a credit to his judgment and...
