Not sure what to say?

Dr. Carr changed my life. I was in his undergraduate and graduate courses on Race/Racism while at ODU. His teaching and engagement with social issues help to propel me to earn my PhD in Sociology and continue to study race/racism. He changed my perspective on life and how can we can and should be committed to justice. Rest well, my friend~

Dr Carr was such a great professor. And a much better human being. With a point of view that was above and beyond standard academic fare. Thanks to Jerry we got to see the great documentary " Harlan County USA" about the protracted coal mining strike! Jerry was often quoted in our house and we cherish the many lessons learned well beyond confines of the classroom. What a mensch God Bless him and his family! Billy and Beth Cardina

My memories of Jerry are of the time I lived with the Kohl family. We used to go out for Chinese in a place in Kernersville? I respected Jerry. Good memories. Peace be with you Janice and Sara.

I am so sorry and offer my sincerest condolences. Dr. Carr (Jerry) was my intellectual mentor and will be solely missed. I would not have the academic career that I do without having had him as a Prof and friend.

Goodbye Jerry, pottery friend who became a real friend. I promise to use the tools you bequeathed me to the best of my feeble abilities!

A wonderful life, well lived! He made us better people. He made this world a better place. May his memory be a blessing.

Janice, so sorry to hear of Jerry's death. Thank you both for your efforts in the Coalition Against Racism and Apartheid and for our work against racist resegregation of our schools and the (continuing) destruction of affordable housing in Norfolk. Jerry was a mentor to many as well as an activist on vital issues.

Dear Janice and Sara, so sorry for your loss. I will never forget Jerry and our time together in Norfolk when I was a young newspaper reporter: our may homemade meals by Janice and trips together to Sandbridge beach. Your home and your friendship were a refuge for me during challenging times.
