I had the pleasure of having Jay as my father in law for almost 5 years. He was so godly, kind and loving. I always remember his touching way of making me feel so important. Joyce, my heart goes out to you. You and Jay were wonderful to me. I pray we can meet again someday. Jay has never left my heart.

I will always remember Jaybird singing Snowflakes on WSLR radio. My sister always requested You are my special angel for me all the time. She worked for the Akron Credit Bureau. And I loved just listening all day. Jaybird's voice you will never forget. I know there are alot people he touched though the years. We will never forget Jaybird you or your voice.

I first met Jaybird through my Dad who was also a part of Akron radio on WAKR.
Later, when I was working as a publicist at Northfield Park, I would call Jay in the evening to give him the race results.
I'd be all serious - trying to be "professional" .... and at the end of my report - Jay would stop and tell some terribly corny joke that would literally leave me speechless.
Needless to say, it wasn't my finest minute of fame in radio...but Jay always made me laugh.
Even recently,...

i had the pleasure of working with jaybird during my days at wkdd in akron back in the 80's. jay was a very kind man who always took the time out to say hello. every once in awhile jay would grab a cup of coffee and come in and sit in the corner of the wkdd studio and share stories of his career while i would do my evening shift. he had such a great voice and he was one of the most sincere people i have ever met. jay loved akron and akron loved jay. rest in peace my friend. rockin rick...

Joyce - You have heard from many and here is one more. It has been a delight to know both you and Jaybird - At Riviera Lanes working for 25 yrs with the Pro Bowlers he treated us all as a friend and then he remembered us when you were out eating or shopping. I saw you both at my church spaghetti supper just recently. He remembered my Jack that had also been at Riviera. Jaybird was such a giving man and shared his faith and his talents with us all. You have such great memories and you were...

Dear Drennan Family -- While Akron has lost one of its most iconic figures, we know that you have lost a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. Unfortunately it is becoming more and more difficult to find men who can be described with words such as "integrity" and "character," but these surely fit the life of Jaybird Drennan. His life has not ended but just truly beginning as his absence in body is to be present with the Lord. At the same time, he is a loss to all of you and to the...

Mrs. Drennan & Family-
You are in our prayers at this most difficult time.
Like many young people in Akron my story is the same.
"Jaybird" was the ONLY thing on the radio in our house when we where kids.
I do remember going to the softball games that WSLR did down at Firestone park...we spent alot of summer evenings there and we enjoyed every one.
Mr. Dennan was a great man.
And that voice...
