Leson’s Funeral Home LTD. - Canora Obituary

At the age of 61 years, Jerry James Gabora, beloved husband of Jan Gabora of Canora, SK passed away on September 14, 2015. Jerry was born on November 30, 1953, the third of four sons born to Sam and Mary (Sokolowski) Gabora of the Canora District. He attended elementary schools in West Wexford and Canora and graduated from Canora Composite High School in 1972. In 1973, he completed Electrical Pre-Employment in Yorkton, SK. Jerry took great pride in farming and continued to work with his father. In 1975, Jerry was united in marriage to Janet Labinowicz. They relocated to Prince Albert where Jerry would pursue his electrical apprenticeship with Pearson Electric and obtain an Interprovincial Journeyman License. While in Prince Albert, Jerry and Jan were blessed with two sons: Jason in 1977 and Jeff in 1980. Jerry continued farming and playing in the band, commuting back and forth from Prince Albert to Canora. Thus, the decision was made to move back and make Canora their permanent home. In 1980, they established their own business, Gabora Electric Ltd., farmed three quarters of land and Jerry continued to play in the band, Georgia, and later on with Partners, Brothers and Friends. He loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, quading, golfing and cutting grass. As well, he enjoyed hockey and was an avid fan of the Chicago Blackhawks and the Yankees. A kind man, Jerry would sacrifice anything for his family, especially his two sons and two grandchildren: Arlyn (6) and Preston (3). It could be said that Jerry?s hobby was ?people? as he was quite social, outgoing and instantaneously loved by many. Known for his compassionate, caring personality, Jerry?s smile would put others at ease and it was a blessing to have had him in their lives. He will be missed immensely by all who had the honour of knowing and loving him. Jerry was predeceased by his nephew, Dean in 1995; brother, Merv in 1996; father, Sam in 2004; mother, Mary in 2008; brother, Willard in 2008 and his nephew, Chad in 2014. He is survived by his devoted wife, Jan; sons: Jason (Ysanne) and Jeff (Shannon Filson); brother, Don (Bernadette) Gabora; nieces: Deanna (Reg) Hrywkiw and their daughters, Regan and Logan, Kim (Duane) Beaudry, and Amy and Erin Gabora; nephews: Evan Gabora, ?Casey? Kenneth Gabora, and Sean (Francine) Gabora; sisters-in-law: Linda Mann, Balynda Gabora and Lona Gabora; and his treasured grandchildren, Arlyn and Preston; as well as extended family, neighbours and many friends. A Vigil of Prayer was held on Monday, September 21, 2015 at 7:30 pm. Funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday, September 22, 2015, at 11:00 am, both from St. Joseph?s Roman Catholic Church, Canora, with Rev. Fr. Franklin Emereuwa officiating. Rite of Committal followed in the Canora Cemetery. Those wishing to make expressions of sympathy may make donations to St. Joseph?s Roman Catholic Church, as tokens of remembrance, in memory of Jerry Gabora.
