Geo. H. Rohde & Son Funeral Home - Cincinnati Obituary

A steadfast and loyal man, Jerry E. Hunolt passed away early Saturday morning 29 September 2018 at his daughter’s home in Cincinnati, Ohio after a brief and courageous battle with cancer.

He was born 20 December 1937 in Kahoka, Missouri to Ralph and Cora Lucille (Long) Hunolt.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Ralph Dean Hunolt.  Jerry is survived by his children Therese Hunolt, Jason (Branwen) Hunolt, granddaughter Estelle Hunolt and his former wife Judith (Pollinger) Hunolt.

After serving his country in the U.S. Navy Jerry began his career with the J.C. Penney Company; his career spanned more than 37 years beginning in Sandusky, Ohio. His first position as a store manager was in Mount Vernon, Ohio followed by a promotion to the Columbus Ohio District Staff where he was instrumental in preparing stores to enter the computer age. Before retiring Jerry wanted to manage a new store and took an appointment as manager of the J. C. Penney store at the Miami Valley Center Mall in Piqua, Ohio in 1988.

Jerry’s primary focus throughout his life was his family, followed closely by enduring friendships and philanthropy.  Never one to sit on the sidelines, he maintained active memberships in numerous clubs and organizations in towns across Ohio, including serving as President of the Mt. Vernon Chamber of Commerce and Grand Knight of the Piqua Knights of Columbus.  Wherever he lived, he made time for his favorite pastimes spending time on the golf course with friends, especially the “Golden Boys” and watching his beloved Cleveland Browns.

We will celebrate Jerry’s life at the Montgomery Inn - The Boathouse, 2nd Floor (925 Riverside Drive) in Cincinnati, Ohio on Saturday 20 October from 4:00pm until 11:00pm. Online condolences may be made at www.rohdefuneral.com.  Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the American Lung Association 4050 Executive Park Dr. Suite 402, Cincinnati OH 45241.

Jerry was a dear friend of my late husband's and mine. He spoke often of his children obviously proud of their accomplishments. Such a genuinely nice person. He will be missed. My condolences to the family. Julia Benkert
