Jerry Paul Katz, 55, of South Hadley died peacefully Sunday at home. He was born in Holyoke, the son of Lila and the late Edward Katz. Jerry was a graduate of Holyoke High School, received his undergraduate degree from the University of Massachusetts, and received his law degree from Western New England School of Law. He was a founding partner in the Springfield law firm of Goldsmith, Katz and Argenio and also a partner in the family business, Arnold's Meats. Jerry was active in many legal and charitable organizations and was a lifelong member of the Rodphey Sholom Synagogue. Jerry was a loving husband to his wife, Paula Struzziero Katz, and a devoted father to his daughter, Elyssa. In addition to his mother Lila, he also leaves a brother Larry and sister-in-law Marianne Katz, and a sister Susan, all of South Hadley; a sister-in-law Carol Struzziero Dannenberg and Michael Dannenberg of Long Island, a mother-in-law Nancy Struzziero of South Hadley, and nephews and niece Jeff and Dan Katz, and Matthew and Lindsey Dannenberg. He was an inspiration to all who knew him, was deeply loved, and will be greatly missed. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center and the Hospice of Cooley Dickinson Hospital, all of whom made his journey more comfortable. The funeral will be held Wednesday at 1:00 pm at Rodphey Sholom Synagogue, 1800 Northampton Street, Holyoke, MA 01040. Shiva will be Wednesday and Thursday at 20 Spring Meadows, South Hadley, with evening services at 7pm. Contributions in his memory may be sent to Rodphey Sholom Synagogue or to Mass General Hospital Cancer Center, 55 Fruit Street, Boston, MA.

I received Jerry's obituary in my email inbox, today, December 3, 2020. My sister and I were both clients of Jerry, and till this day, we talk about him with fond remembrance. I have lived in many places around the globe and have known many lawyers, most of whom I would never recommend. Jerry, however, was at the opposite end of the description of a "typical" lawyer.
