Jerry P. Lanier

I knew Jerry as a slightly longish-haired , well-prepared teaching assistant for beloved Dr. Robert Miller in the history department at UNC, Chapel Hill. Several years later, I ran into him at Kramer Books when we were both new arrivals in Washington, D. C. Being fellow Southerners, and UNC graduates, we visited a very few times in the early 80s and then I lost track until the internet offered the chance to follow the adventures of friends and colleagues. Jerry (and his roommates) were nice enough to let me stay with them in the mid-to-late 1970's when they lived on Macaulay St. in Chapel Hill, NC. Jerry was really bright, and a great guy...someone I always loved visiting with and talking to. I was really saddened to learn of his passing....I wished I had kept in closer touch with him....I would have especially loved hearing about all of his experiences in the Foreign Service.
