Jerry Arthur Plemmons

Jerry was an amazing person and a wonderful supporter of our work in Western North Carolina. He was always ready to bring his energy, enthusiasm and sense of humor to every project that would further the well-being of his community--or of the entire region. He will be sorely missed. My memories of Jerry go back as far as my memories. I loved listening to him on the radio and announcing the Lions Club Horse Shows in my childhood and the Christmas Pageant just won't be the same without his voice booming through the darkness. I feel so blessed to have known him and to have called him a dear friend. He was always quick with a hug and a laugh. The county has lost a great deal of it's sparkle with Jerry's passing. Prayers go out to Sonya and the extended family.

Jerry was one of the first people we met when we moved to Marshall and he was the greatest ambassador for Madison County. He welcomed us and made sure we got to know the community. He was a font of knowledge about the history and culture. He was kind and welcoming and gave good counsel. I last saw him on a visit to Madison a couple of years ago after being away for several years and he greeted me like we'd seen each other the day before. The world could use more Jerrys. We sure hate to lose...

My sympathy goes to his family and to Madison County in the loss of Jerry. He was one of the best colleagues I ever worked with and after our early years in founding the Hot Springs Health Program together, he always kept me informed of developments as they came along. When I moved to Hot Springs in the winter of 1971 with the idea of opening a clinic, I knew I could count on his help and his community organizing skills. It was an honor to know such a great human being.
