Jerry Summer Wilkinson Jerry Summer Wilkinson, 79, of Waynesboro, Virginia, passed away on Thursday, December 08, 2011, at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville, Virginia. He was born on August 22, 1932, in Charlotte, North Carolina, a son of the late John Adrian Wilkinson and Margaret Leila Summer Wilkinson. Jerry was a United States Army Veteran, and served in Germany during the Korean era. He graduated from Catawba College with a Business Degree, and worked for Sears for 33 years, before retiring as manager. He still stayed busy, and volunteered at Augusta Health Hospital and continued the passion he had inherited from his parents for gardening. Jerry was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church. He was a 32 Degree Mason, and member of Lee Lodge # 209 A.F & A.M of Waynesboro, including the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry.

His hobbies included both playing and watching golf, and golf trips to Myrtle Beach. He loved cooking on the grill, keeping up with old friends on the computer, and fishing- especially at Myrtle Beach. He took annual trips with his dad and his sons to fish off the pier there. He was known as a huge University of North Carolina Tarheel fan. Family came first with Jerry. The whole family would go on a weeks vacation to Myrtle Beach every year, for many years. He would sit around with the family and tell his "stories." He was very proud of all of his family. Jerry started dating Jo in the 11th grade, and they dated thru college, and married after his service in the United States Army. Jo survives him after 56 years of marriage. Also surviving are his children and their spouses, John and Janet Wilkinson, Kenny and Jill Wilkinson, Jay and Paige Wilkinson, Leah and Larry Pardue, Tricia and Torrey East; five grandchildren, M.J. Baber and wife, Talise, Ricky Wilkinson, Eric Wilkinson, Alicia East and Isaiah Farmer; two great-grandchildren, Tavian and Roxy Baber; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Wilkinson; and numerous friends. A memorial service will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday, December 10, 2011, at McDow Funeral Home by the Reverend Neil Hough. Interment will be private at a later date. The family will receive friends at the funeral home for an hour prior to the service, beginning at 1 p.m. McDow Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
