Hamptonville - Jesse Lee Carpenter, 88, our loving father, grandfather, and the rock of our family, was called to his heavenly home on Tuesday, June 20, 2017. He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church.  Jesse was a devoted Christian who loved his family and prayed for them daily.  He was born August 6, 1928 in Hoke County to the late George and Winnie Carpenter.  In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.  Jesse resided in Hamptonville since his young adult life where he met the love of his life, Lois Johnson Carpenter who preceded him in death in 2012.  Left to cherish his memories are his daughter, Vena C. Jester of Hamptonville, son, Danny Lee (Carolyn) Carpenter of Boonville; granddaughters, Pam Jester (Pete) Moncus of Hamptonville, Angela Jester (Daniel Hutchens) of Elkin; great grandchildren that he adored, Emily (Seth) Williams of Hamptonville, Dawson and Josie Shaffer of Elkin; great great grandchildren who lit up his world, Aylabelle Rebecca and Abigail Josephine Williams; and several nieces and nephews.  The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m., Sunday, June 25, 2017 at Asbury United Methodist Church.  The funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday at Asbury United Methodist Church by the Rev. Mark Reavill, the Rev. Ricky Johnson, and the Rev. Phillip Link.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family would like to thank all of the staff who loved and cared for Jesse at Pruitt Rehab and Healthcare of Elkin.  A special appreciation to Mountain Valley Hospice, Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home for the gentle caring love provided to him and our family.  The family would also like to thank Asbury United Methodist Church for all the love and care shown to Jesse.  Memorials can be made to Asbury United Methodist Church, PO Box 84, Hamptonville, NC  27020 or to Mountain Valley Hospice, PO Box 1267, Yadkinville, NC  27055.  Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville is serving the Carpenter family.  Online condolences can be made at www.gentryfuneralservice.com.

I was so sorry to read about the passing of Jesse. I have known the family all my life. My uncle, William Money, married Mozelle Johnson, who was Lois' sister. Jesse has always been such a fine Christian family man. Deepest condolences to Vena and Danny and the rest of the family who loved Jesse so much.

Vena and family, so sorry to hear of your dad's passing. I know it is never easy to let go of our loved ones. Sorry I will not be able to be with you at the service but my prayers and love are with you all. Lord bless you all

My thoughts and prayers are with you all. I remember Jesse's kind spirit and his sweet sweet smile. I loved his soft spoken voice. I have very fond memories of him as a child and young person. I am thinking of you with love. May God be ever close to each of you during this very difficult time. What a reunion he is having now.
