Not sure what to say?

Bishop DeWitt and several Elders ordained me Elder in 1981. I continue to be inspired by his ministry for social justice, both timeless and timely messages for the Church and those with whom we serve.

Bishop Dewitt was our bishop for ten years of my husband's pastorate. He was a gentle but firm leader. But he was also a dear friend, and I have many memories of happy times with him and Annamary. There was good food, joking and laughter, often as we trimmed our Christmas tree. Still we found time for serious discussion about the best way for the church to help solve the problems of the world. I miss him.

The most humble and sincere Bishop I ever was privileged to serve under. Joe Amico, Salem, MA (formerly WI Conference)

We will miss this good man who worked for the good of all people and committed his life to justice and a peaceful society.

Bishop DeWitt ordained me a deacon in 1987, when we still had the two-step ordination process for elders. I remember a Bible study he led for our elders' gathering that helped me understand how to move from the experiencing the compassion of Jesus to taking action in the world to fulfill the prayer, "May Thy reign come and Thy will be done on earth as in heaven." Thanks to God for Jesse DeWitt!

What can I say at this time. Jesse meant so much to so many people. I will always remember his kind and gentle words. His strength in his faith and the changes that he felt needed to be made to make us more equal. His belief in equality for everyone is something that we all can continue to fight for in his honor.

We will all miss him...a great guy and a wonderful Bishop, as well as a special role model for everyone.
