Jesse HawkinsJesse Hawkins, superb violinist and master teacher, passed away on February 14. It is most appropriate that Jesse made his transition on Valentine's Day—a day dedicated to love—for no one had a deeper love for music and the violin than did Jesse—a love he communicated to the hundreds...

Jesse was always, always a kind and gentle spirit that loved to play music and have a good laugh. I met him first at the Strings and Jazzy Things camp and there he was a mentor to me. He taught me a lot in times we played together. I will miss him very very much.

He taught my son from age nine to sixteen through the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra. Jesse loved what he did you could see the happiness and passion in his eyes. He always had a big smile and a great story to tell. My son looked up to him as a mentor and exceptional musician. In loving memory of a wonderful person. We will love you and miss you always.

I met Jesse through St Luke’s United Methodist Church and he always had a smile and kind words for me. He was a very talented and humble spirit! I will truly miss his presence. I always looked forward to hearing him play...his talent was beyond this word! His brilliance on the violin really moved and touched me...I can’t imagine never hearing and witnessing his beautiful music on this side of heaven. Until we meet again, God’s speed.

Jesse always brought a smile to my face even on the hardest of days! We would sometimes bump into each other at bus stops or on our commute and he never let a good convo slip away! He didn't just inspire me, but encouraged me musically even when I was lost. Thank you Jesse for providing the best memories over the years. You will always be remembered as the legend that you are!
