Jesse was my teacher at the U of C and had profound influence over my life. I spent many years studying the role of seamen in Boston's coed ptior to the American Revolution as a result of the seminar I took with. His insistence os studying history from the bottom up helped shape my perspective on the world. My condolences to his family. His passing is a tremendous loss; his impact in helping us see the world differently lives on.
