Dothan, Alabama
Jesse Marvin Pribbenow Jesse Marvin Pribbenow died in Dothan in the early morning of October 7, 2009 after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was 58. He requested that a memorial service not be held and that his body be gifted to South Alabama School of Medicine. Born in New Orleans, Louisiana on August 16, 1951, he was adopted into his loving Jasper, Alabama home where he lived much of his life. Jesse lived a full life few would have the courage to attempt with many careers and endeavors. An accomplished musician and singer/song- writer, he performed many years as a young adult including studio music. He retrained in many fields over the years to accommodate a variety of careers as a computer programmer, cameraman, laboratory technologist, carpenter, boat builder in Maine, oyster fisherman, and radioman during his Navy service. His last "hobby turned career" led him to develop a career as a commercial truck driver to see the country until his illness forced his retirement. Jesse held an intense interest in classical music and history as well as a desire to continually learn. Even as his death approached, he would be found taking notes during a video lecture series on DVD. In the last 18 months of his life, he was able to call Dothan his home and was supported by many of the wonderful people of Do-than as well as the excellent care and compassion of the staff and volunteers of Covenant Hospice. He reconnected with many past friends and made new ones. His had an interesting life. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Albert Pribbenow of Jasper, AL and his brother, Bert Pribbenow of Birmingham, AL, preceded him in death. Jesse probably would have suggested, "In lieu of flowers, please enjoy your life today. It's your greatest gift." Southern Heritage Funeral Home and Crematory, (334) 702-1712, is in charge of arrangements. Sign the guest book at www.dothaneagle.com.

Was wondering about you tonight not knowing you had died over 9 years ago. We met in 1968 at the Downunder Coffeehouse run by Natalie Mattson in an old army barrack on the east side of UA campus in Tuscaloosa. Last time I saw you was in Birmingham at a restaurant. Time slides by.

Saw a posting about you playing at the DownUnder. Thought back to all of the times you played for me in Bham. Loved you then.

Of all the friends I've lost, you are the one I miss the most... I don't think you knew how special you and your music were, but I miss that voice. Thanks for bringing your music and humor into our lives for a while...

It was 1970 and I was downstairs with your sister. You invited us up to listen to the just purchased "Sweet Baby James" and you were going on and on about the song "I'm a steamroller baby". It was my intro to JT, and has always stood as a magic moment for me. You had some special energy, thanks for sharing it.

Marvin, you were a special person over our years of friendship. No
matter how long it had been since we last had contact, the renewal
always seemed to pick up where we left off.
I loved the origninal music you wrote and which you shared with
me at J.L. Sartain's 'room.'
You will always have a special place with your friends here in Jasper, AL.
