Not sure what to say?

Uncle Jesse and Aunt Ruth were such an important part of my childhood and I continued to be amazed as an adult at how wonderful they were. Uncle Jess always kept me laughing as a child and I have so many fond memories of visiting Kinston. I feel blessed my children got to know him also and experience his humor, knowledge, and fantastic laugh. We all love him and will miss him but I know he is at peace with Aunt Ruth now. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of those who loved him.

Jesse's humor, generosity and love of food (he used to say a pig and a chicken don't stand a chance in these parts) will be sorely missed. When we were kids, he was our introduction to blues, folk and bluegrass music. North Carolina just won't be the same without his jokes and songs.

Rest in peace, Jesse. You and Ruth made Kinston feel like home.

Hinnant was an outstanding football player at Oxford High. He was captain of an Air Force football team when he served in the military. My brother Tom Ragland & Hinnant were best friends. All that knew him will miss his intelligence & wit.
