Thanks coach for putting up with me;a second string kid from Chicago who thought he knew it all. I should have listened more, talked less and played harder. Your enthusiasm and intensity toward the game was only exceeded by the care and support you gave your players.

i will miss you very deeply dad, you had a witty sense of humor, a staunch unwavering opinion on almost everything, and a heart of love towards your family. we may not always have agreed but we always respected one another. your grandsons will remember that about you, also the many "historical" trips you took them on-whether to the candy store or as a distraction on a hot summer day at the door. you will be in our hearts forever, you will be our #1 coach and we will always be your #1 fans....

Jesse Vail is the winningest coach in the history of North Central College. His 1960 team was the last North Central College football team to win the CCIW. His 1960 team set a standard by which the future North Central teams will strive to attain.

The Kenneth C. Vail family wishes to express our sense of deep personal loss for a man who in addition to his personal accomplishments, always held family as most important. I had the honor and privilege to play for Jesse at North Central college from 1957 through 1960. Which were Jesse's and N.C.C greatest years culminating with the 1960 championship team. Thank you Jesse for all that you did for me.I will miss you.
