Schrader Funeral Home and Crematory - Ballwin Obituary

Jessica Elizabeth Prost was baptized into the light of Christ on Friday, March 29, 2024, following a courageous and inspiring year-long battle with brain cancer.  Jessica blessed this world on June 27, 1995, and from her first breath, approached every moment of life with an unstoppable spirit and unwavering determination.  From an early age, Jessica always wanted to take care of those around her.

Jessica’s passion quickly evolved into her calling, as she graduated as a Registered Nurse from the University of Arkansas and just completed her doctoral studies in Nurse Anesthesia at SIU-Edwardsville.  In spite of her diagnosis, Jessica was relentless in her pursuit of achieving her lifelong dream of becoming a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist.  Amidst the daily challenges of pain, chemotherapy, and radiation treatment, Jessica kept showing up for her patients, her classmates, and her family.

Jessica is the beloved daughter of Daniel and Paula Prost (Stutz) and the best sister to Allison (Fiancé Hunter Schmidt) and Rachael Prost.  Granddaughter to James Stutz, she was preceded in death by grandparents Patricia Stutz, and Glennon and Mary Ann Prost.  In her passing, Jessica leaves behind a large community of loved family and friends.

There are no words and not enough pictures to express how beautiful a person Jessica was - inside and out.  Our family is utterly devastated by the loss of someone who touched the hearts of all who knew her.  Throughout her valiant battle with cancer, Jessica displayed a remarkable will to live, devotion to caring for others, and an unshakeable faith in God.  Although Jessica was taken far too soon, we know she is smiling down and watching over us from heaven.

On Friday, May 3, 2024, Jessica’s SIUE-Edwardsville classmates will officially graduate and walk across the stage to receive their diplomas.  While Jessica won’t be physically present, her spirit will shine brightly, and her family will be there to commemorate her remarkable achievement.  We are immensely proud of Jessica and the legacy she leaves behind.

We ask for your continued prayers.  Please join us in celebrating Jessica at a funeral mass and burial.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Washington University’s Brain Tumor Center (<https://braintumorcenter.wustl.edu/giving/>)

Not sure what to say?

Dan and Paula, so sorry to hear of your loss. My deepest sympathy to your family. Jody Colbert

The good die young.
I had the pleasure of being a clinical instructor of Jessica’s in two different hospitals. She was one of my favorite students and one of the most skilled, teachable students I have met to date. Aside from that, Jessica was that rare combination of super smart, sweet, and gorgeous. I am so sad to hear of the news of her passing. I know she fought hard like she did at everything, because that was her personality. The light she carried with her will now be there to...

Dan: my heartfelt sympathy extends to you & your family. She was too young, beautiful & already an accomplished young woman. My thoughts & prayers are with you, and your family. Sincerely, Jim Belling

I am so sorry for your loss. I went to school with Dan and also had the pleasure of working with Jessica at Mo bap. What a caring young lady she was. Dan I know you are so very proud of her.

I had the pleasure of knowing Jessica throughout college being zetas together and going through nursing school. Although we hadn’t talked in a few years, she has been heavy on my heart this past year and I am so sad to hear of this news. I always thought she was so sweet and was so beautiful inside and out. We use to always laugh about her midwest accent and how much I said “ya’ll” being from the south. She was very special and was such an inspiration throughout this journey. Prost family,...

Jessica please pray over your entire family ,classmates and friends. They are all hurting. I see God all around me. Show them all something so they know you suffer no more. Jesus we believe in you.

Although I didn't know Jessica Elizabeth Prost personally, we passed in the hallway several times and would say hello to one another. By her bright shining light I felt drawn to her, as I share that same bright light in my walk with Christ. I believe God always shows us other Christians that pass through our paths in life, and even though there was just a simple word spoken, I could feel the sincere warmth. I'm deeply sorry to hear the news, and my heart and prayers go out to the family. Just...

My very first sleepover was with Jessica. Dan, I’m so glad that we were able to catch up a couple years ago and that I got to hear the retelling of that sleepover (thank you for fixing my little suitcase). Jessica lives in my most cherished memories throughout my childhood, and I feel blessed that she was such a large part of my life. She will be so missed. Sending my love to the whole family.

The Prost family, I am so very deeply saddened by the loss of your beautiful baby girl. I wish i could have taken her place. Her promising life was just beginning and her future was so bright. May you find some comfort in the love of friends and family that share your broken hearts
