Angelus Funeral Home - San Antonio Obituary

Jesus Z. Lopez Sr., known as Jesse, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to all, left to join our Lord on March 8, 2023.

Born and raised in San Antonio, Jesse was a proud graduate of Harlandale High School, class of 1973.

Jesse met the love of his life, Rosalinda Puente in 1970 and it was love at first sight, this is when their love story began.  Happily married for almost 46 years their life together was a story of first and only true love.  There was nothing Jesse would not do for his Linda and the happiness of his kids.

Together they raised four great men who made Jesse incredibly proud.  Jesse coached all his sons from a young age in baseball, football, basketball and he also coached many in the community thru CYO sports and Little Cowboys football.  A proud parent of the Holy Cross of San Antonio community, Jesse never missed watching his sons at all their events.  In recent years Jesse watched with pride as his grandchildren: Aaden, Aaron and Aavri took the field, he was their biggest fan.  A lover of all sports, Jesse was a huge San Antonio Spurs, Dallas Cowboys, Texas Longhorns and Houston Astros fan.

A long-time parishioner at St. Bonaventure, Jesse dedicated many hours to the CYO program as a coach and mentor and was involved in numerous church ministries.

A hard worker, Jesse was a dedicated employee of Lackland/Kelly AFB., however he did not let retirement stop him from continuing his work outdoors which was yard maintenance to his many clients who loved his work.

Always happy and always smiling, Jesse was the life of the party at family get-togethers, he loved greeting family and friends with a hug and always with a joke or one liner.  Jesse never hesitated to help anyone with anything at any time.

Jesse loved the outdoors, BBQ with family, listening to Tejano and Oldies Music and enjoyed his trips with Linda and Steven to the casinos.

Jesse was a great man, he was a kind, humble and loving soul and lived life to the fullest.

Jesse you will always be missed and you are forever in our hearts.

Born the sixth of eight children, Jesse was preceded in death by his father, Pedro Lopez; mother, Antonia Z. Lopez; and brothers: Pete, Trinidad, Freddie, Johnny and Andy Lopez.

Jesse is survived by his loving wife Rosalinda; sons: Jesse Jr. (Amber), Gabriel (Nicole), Jacob and Steven Lopez; grandchildren: Aaden, Aaron and Aavri Lopez, Devon Gordon, Jude and Jacob Pitre; sister, Lupe Espinoza (Joe); brother, Ricky Lopez (Betty) and many loving nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

Not sure what to say?

Mr. Lopez always greeted me with a kind smile when we would see each other at church.
I remember always talking about football; his Cowboys and my Eagles. Those were some interesting conversations that I will now miss. Rest in Peace, brother.

Our deepest condolences on loss of Jesse. Rose and I are torn when we were informed. Jesse will be missed for sure. He was a great friend and class mate.

Our deepest condolences to Mrs. Lopez and family. Knowing your husband Jesse was a great honor and privilege. I always enjoyed talking to Jesse at HC games where we always ran into each other, because of our boys playing in the same team. He was a kind hearted man and will be forever remembered by friends.
