Jill Gentry Alexander of Henderson, KY, passed away on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at the age of 49. Up until the end, Jill maintained her kindness, grace, compassion, love of family and friends, and expressed gratitude for her life, full of wonderful and varied experiences. Jill leaves an indelible impression on those who called her mother, wife, daughter, sister, aunt, niece, cousin, teacher, mentor, and friend. Jill's brilliant spirit, love of laughter, and compassionate heart captivated
everyone who had the chance to know her.
Jill was born on July 2nd, 1975, to Ron and Judy Gentry in Paducah, KY, completing their family by joining big brother, Brian, and big sister, Julie. Jill graduated from Mayfield High School in 1993 and attended Murray State
University, majoring in education. Jill was very active in Greek Life at Murray State, eventually becoming president of Alpha Omicron Pi sorority and being selected as the “Sweetheart” for Sigma Chi fraternity.
Upon leaving Murray, Jill accepted a middle school teaching position with Henderson County Schools and completed her Master’s Degree with Western Kentucky University. It was in her first teaching job that she met a handsome, funny, fellow-teacher named Jeremy Alexander. Jill and Jeremy were soon married and built a beautiful life together, bringing two wonderful children into the world: Lauren in 2002 and Ben in 2007. Jill’s children were her absolute joy,
and she put everything she had into growing them into the great people they are today. Jill served her community in various capacities, was a member of Chapel Hill Church in Henderson, and always made time for her family and friends, no
matter what else she had going on.
Jill spent her entire career in education at Henderson County Schools, spending 18 years working in the Gifted & Talented Program before retiring in May of this year. She was awarded countless accolades for her service, including the 2023 Michael Caudill Educator Award at the Kentucky Association for Gifted Education.
Jill was a gem of a person who appreciated all that life gave her. Even as she suffered the chronic pain and illness that caused by cancer and chemotherapy, she always seemed more concerned about how others in her life were doing,
answering text check-ins, even in her final weeks with, “I am ok, how are you?”
Jill's passing has left an enormous hole in the lives of those who love her, but her legacy of love, service, and faith will carry on in the many lives she touched.
She truly embodied the adage of a life well lived.
