Lorne and Sons Funeral Home - Delray Beach Obituary

Jill Hoffmann Black, age 64, passed away peacefully on July 5th due to complications from Lupus.  Jill was raised in Delray Beach, and then settled in Boynton Beach with her husband of 39 years, Bill Black, and son John William “J.W.” Black.  She shared an especially close relationship with her daughter-in-law, Carly, and her two grandchildren that brought her so much joy.

Jill attended St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic School and Atlantic High School Class of 1978, where she made many lifelong friends.  She then went on to graduate from Florida Atlantic University, where she majored in education.

Jill was the Athletic Director at St. Joan of Arc School in Boca Raton and loved working with children, coaching, and all sports.  She retired after 34 years.  She and Bill were very active, helpful members in the community.  Jill loved decorating their home for every holiday, crafting Christmas ornaments for everyone, spending time at the beach, had neighborhood Olympics for the kids, and was a big Gators fan.  She would tell you she couldn’t cook, however, Jill was known for her amazing appetizers.  Some of us are lucky enough to have a cookbook from Jill with all of those recipes.

Jill was predeceased by her parents, John and Doris Hoffmann, and brother John Hoffmann, Jr.  She is survived by her husband Bill, son John William (Carly, grandchildren Harper and Bodhi, step-children Tina (B.J.) Jordan, Billy “Whitey” Black (Robyn) and his children Hunter and Lilly, brother Scott Hoffmann (Janee), nephews Tyler (Kristy) and Tanner Hoffmann and many great-nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life for Jill will be held on Sunday, August 4th, 2024 from 1pm - 4pm at the Delray Elks Lodge #1770, 265 NE 4th Avenue, Delray Beach, Florida.  As Jill always said, “I love you like a bushel and a peck and a hug around your neck”.

Not sure what to say?

Jill Black and I started teaching at St Joan of Arc in 1985. We have remained close friends for all these years. I will miss her so much. She was one in a million. Love you girl.

Jill taught my children life lessons through her teaching them good sportsmanship. It's not easy to teach children to respect the rules of the game ..Amazing how it transmits to their lives now. You will be missed Jill ..Big hug to your family from The Markoe Family

Jill rarely slowed down. When she had a few minutes in the school day I would ask about her dogs and we shared info on plants. She gave me a cutting of a plant she called Peanut. I still have it growing in my garden and now, everyday I venture out, I have a reminder of Jill.

A shining star now in Heaven...

I am sending my prayers to Jill's family. I worked with her at SJA for 19 years and remember how she appreciated when we'd bring her back Mickey Mouse rice crispy treats from the Grade 8 Disney trip. Jill was a faithful Gator!

Jill was a great friend and neighbor! We will miss you
