LYNCHBURG, Va. (AP) - Former major league pitcher Jim Bibby has died. He was 65.

Community Funeral Home in Lynchburg said Wednesday that Bibby died Tuesday night at Lynchburg General Hospital. The cause was not disclosed. The family asked for privacy but said a statement would be released later.

Bibby played 12 years in the majors and pitched the first no-hitter in Texas Rangers history, beating Oakland 6-0 in 1973. He was a member of the Pittsburgh team that won the 1979 World Series, starting two games against Baltimore - including the deciding seventh game.

He also played for St. Louis and Cleveland during his major league years from 1972 to 1984.

Not sure what to say?

Cousin, you are so missed... I miss our chats when you would come into Food Lion, where I worked... and our telephone conversations when Mike was playing. No one realize the value of a person until they are no longer with us. Miss you !

I worked on his and family's computers that's how I met him what a great person he was always poking at me when ever he saw the chance a very fun person to be around will miss you my friend

He was a great ballplayer and a dear friend.

I was introduced to Jim by my sister, she is a reporter and knew most of the players that year(1979-82) He was a great guy and a good friend. He adored my little girl, Angie, he used to carry her on his shoulders, we loved him.

I met Jim in Baltimore some twenty plus years ago. While the encounter was brief, it was a memorable moment. He joked about my rather beat up car, and doubted my having any success with the ladies in lght of the vehicle. It was a pleasure meeting him. May he rest in peace, and my regards to his family. Richard Johnson, Jr. a fan of Jim and Henry.

Bibby, I remember the first time I met u at grandpas bar " Worlds famous stadium inn" and u sat down on the chair next to me and put ur hand on my shoulder it was like ur hand went from my back to chest! After that night u were my pitching idol! then when u threw baseball with me I thought I was the coolest person around! Grandpa still talks bout u to me like I knew u as good as he did! Lol I jus wanted to stop by and share my thoughts and let u no u made a huge impact on my life!

"Bibby" was my coach in 1996 in Lynchburg. He was a a bright and happy face in the world of baseball, which wasn't full of bright faces. I can hear his loud voice in the Lynchburg locker room now, trying to be tough, but inside he was a pushover. I remember his putting 8 baseballs in one hand, and none of us could do such a thing. God bless, RIP Bibby.

Jim was my pitching coach in Lynchburg in 1991 for the Lynchburg Red Sox. If it wasn't for his guidance I would have never had the baseball career I had. He was a true class act, leader, and mentor.
