Coker Funeral Home - Sanger Obituary

Jim Roger Herd, 73, of Houston, passed away on Thursday, November 17, 2022, surrounded by his family.  The son of Roy and Virginia A. (Woods) Herd, Jim was born on October 13, 1949.

Jim received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Architecture from the University of Houston in 1972.  He was the owner of Collaborative Projects in Houston.  On December 28, 1996, Jim married Dana Weller in Houston, Texas.  Jim was truly one of a kind.  He had a passion for art, architecture, history, reading, and fast cars.  He would always say he had magic hands.  He could fix anything.  His impact and imprint on Houston is deep and wide.  He is responsible for Division I girls youth soccer existing within the inner-city limits.  He once owned an art gallery, a soda shop, a Cannoli business, and a classic cars shop.  His determination was unmatched.  Later in his life he grew into designing and building some of Houston’s much-loved restaurants.  He was also a storyteller.  His wit, gift of gab, and skill in the art of sarcasm captured everyone’s attention.

He is survived by his wife, Dana of Houston; one daughter Sarah Amelia Hassan of Houston, TX; three sons, Noah Hayes Herd of Nacogdoches, Ian Daniel Herd of Fort Worth, and Jonas Bert Herd of Houston.  Ten grandchildren, Rebecca, Caedmon, Arwen, Isaac, James, Eli, Titus, Brendan, Shelby-Sue, and Callahan, also survive him.

Graveside services for Jim are on Tuesday, November 22, 2022, at 11:30am, in the Bolivar Cemetery in Sanger, TX.  Noah Herd, Jonas Herd, Ian Herd, Charles Herd, Caedmon Hassan, and Ra’ad Hassan are serving as pallbearers.

Be kind to yourself, and grieve as you need, but have the assurance I and others look forward to seeing you adjusting and your energetic, engaging personality returning, albeit...

so shocked and sorry to hear of Jim's sudden and unexpected death . he was so talented and funny and always laughing and carrying on. he will be missed by his large family and many, many friends.

As much as you teased me, Jim, you were there for me when I asked for your help and advice. The thing is, you could take a joke as much as you could give it and I’ll forever be teasing you back. You will be remembered and appreciated.
