So as time goes on , if we are still alive , we count fewer friends in our lives. Many who knew us as children or as teens in the closest ways. Some who knew us as we all aged. Some friends who ranked among our best and who deserved the ranking. The thing, I think, is important about death: The ability for us to be witness, not only for a person going in but going out.
