Jimmie Michael Long, 67 years of age, of Kannapolis, passed away Monday, June 6, 2016.
Jimmie was born June 9, 1948 in Rowan County to the late James Lafayette Long and the late Martha Mae Propst Long.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm, Friday, June 17, 2016 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord. The funeral service will begin at 12:00 pm in the Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Rev. Alan Thompson. The burial will follow at 2:00 pm at Salisbury National Cemetery, 501 Statesville Blvd., Salisbury. Military honors will be conducted by the Rowan County Honor Guard and NC National Guard Honor Guard.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 38 years, Linda Gurley Long; sister, Janice Long Morgan; and numerous special friends.
Jimmie honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was awarded several medals, including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Army Commendation Medal for the acts of valor shown in combat. Jimmie was a classic and muscle car enthusiast. He enjoyed spending his time restoring cars. He and his wife, Linda, were highly involved with the cruise-in car community. He will be missed by his family, friends, and community.
The family would like to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers.
In memory of Jimmie and in honor of Linda, the family wishes memorials be made to the charity of one's choice.
