Rio Hondo - Jimmie Marcel Najvar 69, passed away on April 12, 2017.

Jim Najvar was a devoted husband and father and educator throughout his life. Upon retiring from 34 years in education, Jim became active as a volunteer in state and national parks and refuges and with the Rio Grande Valley Chapter Texas Master Naturalists. From knot tying to pointing out the wonders of nature, Jim always found joy in learning and then sharing that knowledge.

Jim was preceded in death by his father, MJ Najvar.

Surviving Jim are his wife, Jolaine Lanehart, sons Sam Najvar (Annette) and John Najvar (Ana). Also, Grandchildren, Chris Najvar (Kayla), Brittny Najvar, Sebastian Quilo and Miranda Quilo and great-grandchildren, Rocklyn and Knoxton Najvar. Jim is also survived by his mother, Alice Najvar; brother, Allen(Wendy) Najvar and three sisters, Janice Carville (Royce), Patricia Morris (Ronnie) and Annette Milliken (Tim); as well as several nieces, nephew, aunts, uncles and cousins.

A Memorial Service will be held Monday, April 17,2017 at 1 p.m. at Trinity Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Jim's name to the Scholarship Fund of the Rio Grande Valley Chapter Texas Master Naturalists or to your favorite park, refuge or nature center.
