Obituary

Jimmy Greenspoon, the keyboardist for rock band Three Dog Night, has died. He was 67.

Greenspoon's agent, Chris Burke, said he died Wednesday of cancer at his home in North Potomac, Maryland, surrounded by his family.

The keyboardist joined the rock band in 1968 and had been working with them until last October, when he took a medical leave of absence to pursue treatment for metastatic melanoma.

"He was like a brother to me," Three Dog Night co-founder and vocalist Danny Hutton said in a statement. "I knew him since he was just a teenager, and he was my oldest friend in the band. Also, Jimmy was a critical part of our early history, bringing a sound to the band that helped develop our style; he left an indelible mark."

The group is best known for its 1960s and 1970s hits "Joy to the World," ''Mama Told Me (Not to Come)" and "Black and White."

Throughout his career, Greenspoon also performed with artists like Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix and the Beach Boys.

"I will be forever shattered by his death," band co-founder and vocalist Cory Wells said. "Jimmy cared so much about excellence in the music and always made sure we had what we needed on stage and in the recording studio. I was amazed by his photographic memory, his love for music."

Greenspoon is survived by his wife, Susie, daughter, Heather Miller, and two granddaughters.

Not sure what to say?

Jimmy I feel so sad that we lost touch when we left the neighborhood and now to find of your passing. You were the best kind of friend in those tough times. I will forever remember all those late night bike rides and walks! Take care of my Jasper! Your spirit and music will live on forever. To your family you will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Forever in my thoughts and heart!

After hearing today that Cory had passed away, I'm just now learning that Jimmy passed in March. So sad to hear this news. There are not enough words to describe what Three Dog Night & their fabulous music meant to me and the special memories their songs bring. Jimmy's keyboard solos at their concerts were amazing! So sad to know they are gone from our presence. May the Good Lord continue to hold you, his family, tightly in His arms as you go through this difficult time. Love and prayers...

It was always a magical sight and sound to see Jimmy play those keyboards. A true talent. One of a kind master of his art.

There's some Joy to the World missing, now.

May Jimmy rest in peace, we all surely miss him.

Jimmy always loved your music. Rest in peace

May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.

I remember in 1970 being 12 years old and knowing who three dog night was, and enjoying their music. A family down the road hired me to babysit her three sons every Monday night, and while their kids was watching Monday night football, I would listen to their parents three dog night captured live at the fabulous forum on their counsel stereo. Then 30 years later I had an opportunity to see them in my hometown. And got to meet the band afterwards. At that time I had an opportunity to meet...

You certainly brought joy to the world. Thank you. And may you rest in peace.

John 11:33 says: "When Jesus saw her weeping and the Jews who had come with her weeping and groaning, he groaned within himself and became troubled." Jesus expressed tears when his friend Lazarus died, he knows how it feels to lose a dead loved one and he understands what you and your family are experiencing. May this bring you and your family comfort in this time of need. cjp (fla.)
