Jimmy Ray Schwartz, 85, a lifelong resident of Slaughter, LA, died Saturday, July 26, 2025, at his home in Slaughter, LA. 
 
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am July 31, visitation will be from 9:00 am – 10:00 am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 4117 LA 412, Slaughter, LA.  President Jim Hofeling will officiate.  Interment will follow at Redwood Cemetery, Slaughter, LA.  McKneely Funeral Home, Amite, is making the arrangements. 
 
Mr. Schwartz was born October 10, 1939, in Independence, LA, son of the late Johnnie Ambrose and Lucilla Craft Warner Schwartz.  He was a graduate of McKowen High School in Jackson, LA, where he was known for his athleticism in all sports, including being an All-State candidate in football.  He proudly served four years in the U.S. Navy, with two years on the USS Springfield on its Mediterranean cruise.  He traveled the U.S. as a Planner Scheduler for nuclear plants. He was an avid chess player and taught all his family the proper rules and etiquette of the game.  He was beloved by his family and friends.  He was a true gentleman. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  He married Carolyn Corcoran, daughter of the late Clifton Leroy Corcoran and Lydia Hazel Pevey.   
He was a member of St. Alban’s Lodge #28 in Jackson, LA, and a charter member of Slaughter Masonic Lodge #475.  He was a charter member and an early Chief of the Slaughter Fire Dept. 
 
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Corcoran Schwartz and their five children: Lydia Rae (Fred) McInnis, Salem, UT; Clifton Ambrose Schwartz, Slaughter, LA; Holly Amanda (Joseph) Gunter, Everton, MO, Ashby Elliott (Shaunessy) Schwartz, Slaughter, LA, and Thomas Felps (Cynthia) Schwartz, Slaughter, LA.

He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters - Hazel Inez Daley, Vivian Irene Parker, June Collette Gaspard, Iris Marie Schwartz, and Miriam Ware, and brothers - Ambrose Lee, Hollis Oscar, Weldon Aaron, and Douglas McArthur. 
 
A special thanks to Hospice, the people working there (Lauren, Mary and Kathryn) were most helpful and comforting. A special thank you to our beautiful cousin Melissa “Missy” Schwartz who was our guide through this difficult experience.  A thank you to our family, friends and church communities that supported us through this trying time.

I am so very sorry to hear of the passing of Jimmy Schwartz! He was an amazing man with the sweetest kindest soul. My thoughts and prayers are with the entire family! So many great memories growing up in Slaughter! Sorry to have missed the funeral as i was out of state. Hugs to all❤
